There have been many surveys carried out over the years since the bypass was first proposed in 1972. These include a traffic survey on 'Best Value' in 1992. This was carried out before the proposed scheme could go forward to the Draft Order Stage. The Herald Express has also carried out a major survey since 1994 on local people and is still being carried out today.
